2019 looks at 2018, asking for tips

Whatever 2018 wanted from me, it ALMOST got it. And I think I got it, too.

Being shortlisted in the Open category at Sony World Photography Awards has definitely been the highlight of the year, and a great way to start it. I didn’t bring me extraordinary success but more exposure and confidence in my work and especially in my photographic instinct.

My collaboration with The Turnpike gallery brought me loads of moments of inspiration and practice, as well as technical challenges; I am pleased to see my photos printed, on the gallery’s walls, inside and outside, as well as on their brochures and leaflets. It is a great feeling. But being part of a family of such amazing creative, brilliant and beautiful people is even more rewarding! Make sure to visit when you are in Leigh!

I have been continuing with my freelance work, although probably not in the direction I would have wanted; UberEats projects brought me loads of clients though, diverse photoshoots and plenty of free, lovely food to taste. I enjoyed meeting new people and was glad to be called back by clients who wanted for me to collaborate with them further and help them promote their business.

Have had again many opportunities to shoot people; family shots, christening, weddings and a few fashion shots. I aim at doing more of these in 2019!

I have been lucky to collaborate with great models, businesses and inspiring people, and felt very compelled to try new things in terms of poses and locations.

My personal projects focused more on landscape in 2018. I probably needed this approach to compliment the rather hectic rhythm of my freelance work, based mainly around the city. Being in nature was something I also needed for both my mental and physical health, so I intend to include even more of that in 2019. I must admit the highlight was the end of this year when I spent a week alone in Wales, with the mountains, lakes and storms, and it was all unexpectedly perfect in its imperfectness as November can be really challenging for photography. It inspired me, however, more than I could have wished for, and hope the energy I got from that experience will linger into the beginning of 2019, with more courage and ideas!
